Fans of Nickelodeon are saying goodbye to Christy Knowings; the actress and comedian who made 1990s kids laugh with her performances, on {All That}. Knowings passed away in California at the age of 46. Sketch comedy and an essential role in TV history is how many will remember her.
If you were tuned in to All That during the Nickelodeon era, then you likely remember some of Knowings’s massive and fearless characters who had a good sense of humor. Featuring on the show in 1997, she was able to keep up with the best of the best; Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes, Kel Mitchell, Nick Cannon and Josh Server. For many, she was a part of the cool crew that made Saturdays the best!
It has been reported that Knowings passed away on August 11 from life support being withdrawn due to complications following cardiac arrest caused by severe asthma attack on August 7. Unfortunately it was her father Charles Dunn who had to make the announcement to the public.
During one of Nickelodeon’s golden ages, Christy worked on a show called All That, where youth talent drew the audience as they preformed sketches that evolved constantly from silly to weird to funny. She was on the show for over thirty episodes helping to launch the careers of young talent she worked with who would later be seen in films and on television.
As much as All That shapeds her early success, it was not her last project. Later events would show that she had a career outside performing, as she was seen on Sesame Street and later performed in the movie, Mother and Child in 2009. It seems that she was a dabbler of creative arts as she also did comedy outside of performing and had others projects.
Once the news of her passing was released, some of her former coworkers shared their memories. Kenan Thompson made a post honoring her and also her work and efforts on the Nickelodeon show. The alumni and fans of All That felt the loss and it reminds them that the show left a remembrance and a bond of friendship among the cast members, who entertained a generation of fans.
It isn’t just a case of nostalgia for fans who reminisced over old Nickelodeon shows. Nickelodeon’s All That was the first introduction to the art of sketch comedy for most. All That was a launching platform for performers that are now the pillars of comedy. That is why news of her death brings back the memories of All That. Fans cannot help rewatching old episodes to reminisce.
All That premiered in 1994 and almost immediately became Nickelodeon’s primary outlet for live-action comedy. The show and its stars produced some successful spin-offs. A version of the show premiered in 2019 with an original cast member as an executive producer. But for many, the best version is the original, starring Christy Twining.
While she was a star for a short period of time, her light and laughter is available for many to enjoy because of the TV appearances she made. Her legacy lives on through the binge-worthy shows and funny memories that are brought back by the familiar theme song.
Like many who gave us really classic comedy that shaped the way we look at shows the way comedy paves the way for many shapes of hearts, her work and those original All That episodes will continue to garner many new fans decades after her original work.
